Little Money, Little Games

What to do when waiting for releases? Why look towards the free, arty games of course. In this podcast we look at Serena, Glitchhikers and A Dark Room.

Serena is a game that was a free point-and-click adventure game on Steam, so of course I tried it. I didn’t think it was very good, but had some interesting formal elements that I figured could add to the genre as a whole. I still do, but since then I’ve played Jurassic Park: The Game which does some similar things, only much better.

Glitchhikers is a game I feel there isn’t enough of to call a masterpiece and yet, if there was more it would lose much of what it has. One of those strange titles, whose weirdness is an asset, but also a hindrance to being truly sublime. This will live or die on the criticism is receives over time.

I get A Dark Room; I’m just not enamored with A Dark Room as so many others are. Though in our discussion it seems that maybe if I played to full version released on mobile the experience would be very different. There’s just that bit of detail missing from the game to make me feel something for it.

You can play all three games for free right now and you can listen to our podcast on them here.
