This week on the Moving Pixels Podcast we discussed the noir infused horror indie game White Night.
I really like the discussion on this game. It speaks well of any game that is able to engender a conversation that speaks to expressionism, subtle themeing, genre mixing and long discussion on craft on how it affects the representation of the game’s themes, even a game I’m not personally high on.
Though, while I do think it stumbles quite a bit in execution with a few particularly poorly designed rooms and an ending sequence I think might have benefited from being more unreal than it was, White Night is a excellent case study in subtlety. It message isn’t too complex, but the thrust of it comes slowly and with convincing narrative detail rather than blunt force trauma methods of information delivery. I’ll give it that.
We had a very good discussion on the game and enjoyed it immensely. You can listen to it at PopMatters or add the Moving Pixels Podcast RSS feed to your podcatcher of choice.
